        PRIMARY SCHOOL

        Curious, Confident Learners

In the Primary Years, we blend the most effective educational practices from the US, UK, and China. Our Primary Years program extends the curiosity and bilingual fluency nurtured in Early Years to a more structured, transdisciplinary journey. Our students evolve from playful explorers into problem-solvers and compassionate leaders, equipped to engage with complex ideas and the real world.

        Hiba Primary's Three Guiding Principles

Every child is innately curious. We nurture thoughtful inquiry through challenging, concept-driven investigations that span science, arts, and humanities.

Agency is empowering. Students take ownership of their learning through research projects, collaborative debates, and real-world problem-solving.

Elementary school students perform on stage at Hiba Academy Bay Area, an international primary school in San Francisco Bay Area offering International Baccalaureate, International Primary Curriculum, and social and emotional learning programs.

Excellence springs from engagement. By combining intellectual rigor with creative expression, we foster a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

        Mathematics: Precision and Problem-Solving

Just as every child is naturally primed for language acquisition, they are also inherently prepared for mathematical thinking. Our mathematics program follows the Shanghai model, which is regarded globally as the gold standard for math education and celebrated for its systematic rigor and unparalleled student outcomes. Hiba students learn mathematics as a stand-alone subject in both English and Mandarin. We teach carefully selected topics in deliberate order, building strong foundations in number sense, fluency, and core skills.

At the same time, using an inquiry-oriented approach, practice exercises are designed to reveal core mathematical principles, avoiding rote repetition in favor of strategic problem-solving that builds conceptual fluency and insight. We therefore prioritize discussion in which students articulate their reasoning, compare methods, and refine their thinking under expert teacher guidance.

Every student emerges as a precise and creative thinker who can apply knowledge in real-life contexts, tackle complex problems, and thrive in a world where advanced mathematical understanding and fluency unlock opportunity.

        STEM: Thinking Like a Scientist

We want every Hiba student to think like a scientist—curious, analytical, and eager to explore. From Early Years onward, science is taught through interdisciplinary units aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. A strong STEM foundation, integrated with inquiry-driven learning, helps students connect concepts and apply them in real life. Through hands-on projects, field trips, and collaborative challenges, students experience the links across disciplines and develop the skills to navigate—and shape—the future.

At Hiba Academy Bay Area, we believe holistic growth extends beyond the classroom. Here's a glimpse at how your child will spend their day:

        Nurturing Personal Growth

Primary learning at Hiba Academy also features a distinctive social-emotional component. So, in addition to building a solid foundation of academic knowledge, they develop traits essential to making a positive impact wherever they go in life. Throughout our curriculum, students learn the importance of:

        协作力

        Collaboration

        沟通力

        Communication

        社交力

        Relationship-Building

The Arts and Physical Education: Creativity and Movement

At Hiba Academy Bay Area, the arts and physical education are taught by dedicated specialists. Students enjoy endless opportunities to learn, create, and move with purpose. Meanwhile, they connect to broader classroom learning and to concepts explored in our transdisciplinary units.

In the arts, students explore drama, dance, music, and visual arts through performances, workshops, and collaborative projects. They experiment, perform, and discover their talents while engaging with bicultural and multicultural perspectives in both Mandarin and English. Read more: Why Multicultural Education Matters: Key Benefits and Challenges

In physical education, children build health and confidence while finding joy in movement. Sports and outdoor activities help them develop resilience and teamwork, strengthen communication, and teach the value of fair play. These experiences support personal growth and provide a solid foundation for lifelong health and well-being.
