Our Early Years curriculum takes your child on the first steps on their lifelong learning journey. With our experiential approach to learning, students will explore the basics of mathematics, literacy, language, and the arts through developmentally appropriate, immersive, hands-on activities in both English and Chinese. In our outdoor learning areas, they will learn to take calculated and age-appropriate risks while they develop strength, coordination, and fine and gross motor skills. Along the way, they will cultivate essential life skills, like independence, building positive relationships with others, problem-solving, and self-care.
Our Primary students will engage with all course content in English and Chinese equally. Chinese language, therefore, will not simply be studied as an individual subject. It will be a language of instruction. So, your child will not just learn a second language; they will learn how to learn in a second language. This is the key to proficiency. Our curriculum is also based on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. This framework places a strong emphasis on research-based inquiry, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, self-examination, and empathy. Through this balanced bilingual approach, our students will develop the perspectives and traits they need to make a positive impact on the world.

Hiba Academy will be a premium private international school, teaching Bay Area children in both English and Chinese. It will initially serve Pre-K and K-5 students. It is the newest member of Wellington College Education, a global network of schools, and is the group’s first US campus. In the longer term, we plan to expand to a full Pre-K to grade 12 provision as our learning community grows.
An international school is different because it offers a curriculum that fosters a global mindset through its teaching and learning. In the process, students develop the cross-cultural competencies they will need to thrive in an interconnected world.
Bilingual education prepares children to be globally competitive. It develops cognitive abilities while teaching children to better understand the world around them. We define ‘bilingualism’ as the ability to make a seamless transition between the two languages of instruction. A bilingual person can read, write, understand, think, and speak in the two languages in any context and without hindrance.
We understand that some of the children enrolling at Hiba may not have had much exposure to the Chinese language. We will, therefore, provide the support they need to reach their highest potential through intensive language support and tailored programs of teaching and learning.
It is never too early to start learning Chinese. In fact, the earlier children begin to learn a second language, the more likely they are to become fluent.
